Day Three: Cody and Mormon Row

DAY Three: Today we did Cody and Mormon Row. In the morning, we went to the Buffalo Bill Museum, $19 per adult. The museum was cool, but we especially enjoyed the Old Trail Town. Cost is $9 per adult. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid actually frequented the buildings in this collection of old cabins. Jeremiah Johnson's grave is also there. My husband loves the movie Jeremiah Johnson, so he was pretty impressed to see the grave there. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFLwH-ZZ1MY...

Day Two: National Parks

DAY TWO. This continues my series on a perfect Jackson vacation. Today was all about National Parks. Teddy Roosevelt has always been my favorite President because he created the first National Parks. Grand Teton and Yellowstone are special places. They are so pristine, unique, and well cared-for. I feel lucky to live so close to a place that people come from all over the world to see. We woke up to this beautiful view of Sleeping Indian and the Elk Refuge. This is the best lodging view in Ja...

Day One: Bar J Wranglers

My husband and I just returned from a little vacation in the Jackson Hole area. Here are my tips for a great Jackson vacation, day by day. People line up early in the afternoon to get the closest seats, but the gates open at 5:30. Thankfully, my stepdad was willing to wait there since 1 PM, so we got front row seats. But I'm sure the show would be en...

Good Old-Fashioned Cooking in Jackson Hole

Long ago, intrepid pioneers and other Western trailblazers set out to tame uncharted wilderness. The dangers were always afoot—snakes, hostile natives, dysentery—but when times were good, they could always count on the dependable chime of the dinner bell to signal that it was time for some good-old trail-cooked chow. These days, you have the same opportunity, thankfully minus all the nasty parts, like the dysentery. One of the potential memories you’ll make as part of your Jackson Hole...

This Jackson Hole lodging deal involves lots of animals.

If you were alive during the nineties, or you’ve had some exposure to pop culture since, chances are there’s a certain image burned into your brain: a sunrise blazes into existence on the screen, accompanied by a chant to which everyone knows the words without really knowing the words. (You know—it goes, “Naaaants igonyaaaa!” . . . or something like that.) The sunrise awakens animals big and small (who shuffle drowsily across the Serengeti) as well as your own inner child. I’m re...
