Have you ever wondered who was the first man in Yellowstone? Well, here's an interesting book that discusses that very question.
Daniel Trotter Potts (or D.P.T. as he called himself in his writings) was one of the first men who actually recorded his journeyings through Yellowstone Park.
If you want to go more in-depth on this topic, the book The First Known Man in Yellowstone is a great place to start. Jerry Bagley is author of the book (and he's also the original owner of the Flat Creek Inn property! Read more about that here.)
About The Author
Jerry grew up a huge history lover. He was known to take lots of detours while on family road trips to go check out different historical areas along the way. His love for history led him to graduate with a masters degree in Western American History. He started researching the first man in Yellowstone as part of his thesis while he was in college.

Later in life Jerry wanted to pick back up on his old passion of the first man in Yellowstone. He decided to compile all of his research into a book. As he finished up his research for the book, he traveled to many museums throughout Wyoming and got special permission to go into the archives. He also took many trips to visit Yellowstone, especially the Old Faithful Geyser. Luckily he was able to complete and publish his book before he passed away in 2003. He spent the last years of his life touring the western states where he was able to give lectures and sell his book.
The Cool Cover Art
The cover art on this book is especially captivating. Jerry went to the home of Gary Carter, the famous Western American artist, and commissioned him to create a painting for the book. It turned out wonderfully.
If you're looking for a fun book to read, this is it! You can find it on Amazon, or if you're in Jackson Hole, you can pick up a copy at the Flat Creek Inn store.
