5 Things to Do if You Have 48 Hours in Jackson

Jackson Hole Historical Society Museum
Situated approximately an hour from Yellowstone National Park and mere miles from Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole is a home base for your national park adventures. But it’s also much more. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway or you’re a weekend warrior, Jackson Hole has plenty to offer! Consider these five activities for your next weekend getaway:

1. Take a ride

Last April, my husband and I spent a beautiful spring morning biking through the scenic Jackson from Flat Creek Inn to Teton Village, a ride of about 30 miles. The Jackson Hole community pathways were excellently maintained and very well marked. It’s ideal for both leisurely rides or a more strenuous workout. Along the way, you’ll get some of the most incredible views.    My wife in front of a bridge

2. Dive into the food scene

Food is a critical aspect of any vacation I take. I’m often known for planning out the food route I’ll take through a city, fitting sights and attractions between snacks and meals. While I’m not an expert on the Jackson Hole food scene, I know someone who is and he wrote an excellent blog post about it here. And I second his BBQ recommendation!

3. See a show at the Jackson Hole Playhouse

This is something I’m DYING to do! Seriously, it sounds SO fun! Lots of capital letters and exclamation marks in that sentence, but if you’re into quirky dinner theaters and classic westerns like Annie Get Your Gun, this place is for you. You can choose the dinner and a show option (I obviously would), or just the show. Ticket prices range between $40-$75 for adults and $25-$50 for children. The meal includes salad, bread, soft drinks, and the main course with sides. Dessert is available for an additional charge (again, I would obviously do this). This sounds like such a fun way to spend a summer night in Jackson. Check their website for shows and reservations.   Jackson Hole Playhouse

4. Relax at a spa

In town for a girls’ weekend? Or a romantic getaway? Why not spend some time at one of Jackson’s many day spas? Whether you’re in the mood for a facial, a body wrap, or a massage, spending an afternoon at one of the world-class spas will be sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated!     Spa stuff

5. Visit the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum

This is another place I’ve really wanted to visit! The Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum (JHHSM) was founded in 1958 by an archeologist and western history enthusiast. The museum focuses on the archeology and history of Native Americans in the area. It also features exhibits on the historical industry, i.e. fur trading and homesteading and the move to tourism and skiing. During the summer, the JHHSM offers free hour-long walking tours of historic downtown Jackson. Before planning your visit, make sure to check their website for seasonal hours.   Jackson Hole Historical Society Museum Other honorable mentions include visiting the elk refuge, strolling through one of the many art galleries, or getting in some retail therapy at any of Jackson’s unique shops.
