In today's world, a little peace and meditation never hurt anyone, and Jackson Hole's a fine place to start. You’ve got mountains that make you feel small in a good way, skies that go on forever, and long stretches of quiet. You can call it mindfulness if you want. Or you can just stand there and stare for a while. It's the same result. Here are some of the best ways to get some meditation done while in Jackson Hole:
Stargazing
There’s something about the night sky out here that turns down your mind's volume. Maybe it’s the lack of light pollution. Maybe it's the vastness. Maybe it’s the great kings of the past staring back at you. Either way, lying back and watching the stars is about as close to effortless meditation as it gets. No technique required.
Sunrise and Sunset
Fun fact: nature has a daily reset button. Early morning is especially good: fewer people, softer light, and the right amount of chill in the air. Sit or stand, sip your hot beverage of choice, and question your life choices in a healthy, scenic environment. Relax—whatever conclusions you reach will be the right ones.
Walking ... but Slower than Usual
Hiking is great. Slow hiking is underrated. First, pick a trail. With us so far? Good. Scenic, dramatic grandeur is obviously nice, but it's not necessary. Go ahead, walk at a pace that would annoy your more goal-oriented friends. They're not here. Notice your steps without a fitness tracker. Congratulations, you’re meditating. You’re also barely moving, but guess what? That’s the point.
Wildlife Watching
Nothing brings you into the present moment like realizing you are not nature's main character. (Profound, we know.) Watching elk move through a meadow or seeing a bison just existing with zero urgency has a way of recalibrating your internal pace. You don’t need to interpret nature. You don't need to understand it. Just observe and maybe reconsider your to-do list. And—we always have to add this—do it with respectful distance and the appropriate amount of awe.
Scenic Pullouts
You’ll pass dozens of places where the correct response is to pull over, get out, and stare. These are not just photo ops. They're free meditation studios. Take a few minutes, breathe, and resist the urge to check your watch. You'll thank us later.
"Official" Meditation
Along with the various mindfulness bounties nature offers, Jackson Hole also has structured ways to meditate. If sitting still on purpose with other people is more your style, you'll find a variety of yoga studios and wellness centers in town that offer guided meditation classes, breathwork sessions, and various calm, intentional spaces that don’t rely on a mountain view. We don't have a favorite meditation technique (though we may be partial to Jackson Whole, because who doesn't love a good pun?), but a quick Google search will reveal everything from drop-in sessions to full retreats. In other words, you can absolutely meditate the traditional way here. But you don’t have to.
Whatever you choose, the real trick is lowering the bar just enough to let it happen. Sit somewhere quiet. Look at something beautiful. Stay there a little longer than feels necessary. No incense required. Just maybe a decent jacket.

Flat Creek Inn offers a great place for quiet meditation, but it also puts you close to the places people actually search for: we're minutes from Grand Teton National Park, scenic overlooks, and quiet trailheads. With easy access to sunrise spots and wildlife viewing areas, it’s simple to step outside and have a ready-made setting for slowing down.
